Changing the Flow: Solutions and Rituals for Water Justice

Changing the Flow: Solutions and Rituals for Water Justice will be led by two powerhouse water advocates: Jamie Della and Wendy Schneider. Discover the hot topics at the forefront of water justice today from a water conservation professional who works in the trenches. Learn how you can make a difference in your local community, or on a regional scale. Participate in a ritual to alleviate compassion fatigue and refill the cup for all water advocates around the world.

Wendy and I worked together on Keep Long Valley Green (KLVG) when she hired me to launch their newsletter. KLVG is a diverse coalition of hunters, environmentalists, ranchers, and indigenous people fighting to keep water rights on local lands of Payahuunadü versus sending precious water down to Los Angeles. We have leaned across the table to work together, otherwise we would all be left without water, leaving behind arsenic, dust storms, and dead cottonwood trees.

Wendy and I will discuss what you can do locally, even when it feels like David and Goliath fighting for humanity and shared access to precious resources. I will lead us in right to assuage the pains caused from being a compassionate warrior. We don’t back down. We hold vigilance in one hand and love in the other.

Read on to learn why KLVG exists…. In 2018, The Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) decided to de-water Long and Little Round Valleys, CA. The LADWP notified leaseholders in that it would be eliminating their irrigation allotments. This water not only helps to support local pasture, it also plays a critical role in maintaining wetland and meadow habitat – much of which were lost in 1941 when LADWP built the Long Valley Dam and created Crowley Lake. Join us in demanding that LADWP provide a sufficient, binding water supply each year to keep these valleys green, with a healthy environment and a sustainable economy!
