Leo Moon Moments

February 16 is the full moon in Leo – a powerful moment to breathe deeply while attracting one’s most joyful desires. It’s the inhale of whatever lifts your spirit and makes you want to shake your mane. It’s the exhale of a roar of delight and authority to claim your dreams coming true. Leo’s passion always includes play, surprise and flair of drama. This viral Facebook post called Girls Who Buy Crystals by Kurt Tocci is a very Leo way of dramatically playing on stereotypes & tendencies of Magick Makers.

At first my pride was offended when I saw the video because I wasn’t sure if he was making fun of me and witchcraft by listing off all the things we are “supposed to do” like bathing crystals in moonlight and smudging everything in sight. But then I began to see a caricature of myself and I felt this “fear of being marginalized” separate from who I am and the fear began to lose its power over me. It’s one thing to be respective of the Witchcraft lifestyle and its another thing to live from its center. Here, I saw inclusivity. When he pulled out the wicker baskets clinking bottles of oil and herbs galore, I burst out laughing. He was making light of living with a cottage Witch. He knew a few things. Otherwise, how did he know about the baskets?

Since Winter Solstice, I have been off social media in what I call my creativity cauldron. In a magickally reflective dance, the snow has blanketed the ground here in the Eastern Sierra and the air has been brittle cold, making the fire in the woodstove heaven on earth. Being present to my family and friendships in the stillness of winter, I have enjoyed not trying to capture each moment or think about position or branding on Instagram or Facebook. I also wanted to take a deep dive into writing Box of Magick, my next book, which begins with meeting my mentor Connie deMasters in December of 2001. I wanted to take myself back to where I was twenty years ago at the end of my Saturn’s Return where viral memes did not exist.  And yet, there was one to tempt me.

Although I felt like I was cheating, I watched Kurt’s viral video and snuck a response on the feed to thank Kurt for including The Book of Spells in his Facebook thumbnail.  Kurt had pinned a comment that the Etsy shop Herbal Thyme Creations he mentioned in the video was owned by his girlfriend Emily. I followed the link and saw that Emily had placed my book in the background of her Basic Witch magic candle, so I had to buy a candle. Kurt asked to send along Emily’s copy of The Book of Spells so I could sign it for her. Round and round the energy goes. This brings me great joy on a Leo Moon.

Everything is created in the dark womb – in that space and time of rest and quiet.  I expected my life to slow down and instead it has sped up as the thoughts and desires that tumbled in the darkness are ready to sprout. I training to be a SoulCollage® facilitator. This is powerful depth psychology using collage cards that you make as oracles for transpersonal development. This is going to be very deep work – similar to my intense focus on Self at the end of my Saturn’s Return when I first met my Magickal mentor. Self-love is another Leo trait for today.

The Leo Moon is also asking you to acknowledge your accomplishments. This my exciting news:

Quilt a new social media platform is going to interview me on March 18 for their new book club with the theme of Witchcraft as Self-Care.
Shepherd, a website that is like Goodreads but better for book discovery & better for authors, offered to promote The Book of Spells with my five book recommendations on Witchcraft as Self-Care. The focus will be on magickal responsibility, reciprocity and mental well-being.

Anwyn Avalon will interview me about my Water Witch craft and activism as the writer of Every Last Drop on March 23 via her blog and via live Instagram.

Magick really is everywhere. Claim your joy and revel in it.
